Hi there! My name is Amanda and I am so excited to be the newest intern at Rhythm Garden Music. I am from Grove City, Ohio which is just outside Columbus and I studied music therapy at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. I loved my time at OU being involved in numerous organizations and vocal ensembles. I am always down for adventure and exploring new places so I decided to go outside of Ohio for my internship. My cat Ashton is joining me in this new place and we are both very excited to see all that Indiana has to offer.
My high school choir director is the person I credit with helping me find a passion for music and helping me discover a desire to pursue that passion in college. I was deciding between something in music and studying special education and when I discovered music therapy was a career choice I figured that was the perfect combination of both! Throughout college I continued to fall more in love with the music therapy profession and all of the different opportunities. I realized that there are just too many different options to choose only one so I started looking for an internship that worked with a wide variety of people. That is when I came across Rhythm Garden. Working with multiple populations is something I am really looking forward to and can’t wait to see how it helps me grow as a music therapist.
In addition to all things music related, some of my favorite things include good coffee, good food and good people. I am constantly taking recommendations for movies to watch and music to listen to. During conversations you can catch me quoting from New Girl or my favorite movies at least once if not several times. One of my favorite ways to spend time is baking while dancing around the kitchen to one of my numerous playlists. I am always looking for reasons to celebrate so I have an excuse to gather people together and share good food. During my time in Indiana, I intend to find all of the book stores, flower shops, and coffee shops in the surrounding areas!
Completing my internship is something that I know will challenge me and help me grow in numerous ways. I am excited to put in the time and effort to serve the clients here at Rhythm Garden and work with other wonderful music therapists. I can’t wait to see how my skills are strengthened through the many opportunities here at the clinic. There is always something new to learn and I know this is the time to soak up as much knowledge and experience as I can. I am grateful for this opportunity and excited for the journey ahead.
