Hello again everyone! My name is Sarah, and I am the newest board-certified staff music therapist here at Rhythm Garden. At the end of last year, I completed my internship here at RGM, and couldn’t be more excited to be back!

Sarah Weithers, MT-BC

Musically, I have been involved with choir and singing for as long as I can remember, and did take piano lessons when I was younger that have come to be very useful, considering what I’m now doing for work. Personally, I prefer anything from classical music to showtunes to rock, but am always excited about learning new songs and styles to play in!

Originally from Illinois, I first moved to attend the University of Evansville to receive my degree in music therapy, and, with my experiences with RGM, have now become a permanent Indiana resident. In addition to learning about music therapy, while at UE I also studied psychology and cognitive science, and am interested to continue to explore the overlap between these fields. On my main instruments as well as in these other areas, and I am excited to expand and develop those skills while I start my professional life here at Rhythm Garden.

I didn’t always know that I wanted to be a music therapist, though; I first learned about music therapy when I was in high school when I was trying to decide what I wanted to study in college. I’ve always had a passion for and have been involved with music for as long as I can remember, but wasn’t sure that I wanted to go into performance or education. At the time, I was also taking a psychology class and had fallen in love with that disciple as well. When I learned about music therapy and how it could be used to help others, it seemed like the perfect place to continue to use my passion for music and to help better others’ lives. To this day, being able to see how music can connect people and affect positive change is my favorite thing about what music therapy can do.

Coming to Rhythm Garden, I am excited to be able to work with many different clients in a variety of settings, and to better myself as a musician and as a music therapist by diversifying my skills along the way. I have learned so much from my past clinical hours and experiences and cannot wait to see what new people I will meet and what music-making will happen next!

Outside of any music-making, I enjoy almost all forms of crafting, playing D&D and storytelling with my friends, and experimenting with any new baking recipes in my kitchen! My go-to fun facts are that I’m a triplet, my favorite color is turquoise, and my favorite type of ice cream is cookies and cream.
