Intern Corner: Welcome Rachel!

Hello! My name is Rachel, and I am the current music therapy intern at Rhythm Garden Music (RGM) for January 2026! I moved from South Carolina to Indiana to be near more family and to attend Saint Mary-of-the-Woods college to get my bachelor’s of science in music therapy with piano as my primary instrument. Music has always been a part of my life at a young age by being in choir from middle school till the end of college, and I began playing piano sophomore year of high school. I don’t remember how I learned about music therapy in high school, but deep down I knew I wanted to help people as a career, and music combined with that sounded amazing to me! During my internship, I will be here for 6 months doing 1200 clinical hours to be eligible for taking the final CBMT exam to become a board-certified music therapist.

Since I strongly preferred my internship to be in Indiana, Rhythm Garden Music was one of the internships that stood out to me the most once I discovered them. I was super nervous being interviewed, but everyone part of the team was super nice, and I loved how interactive things were! Discovering them reminded me of the root behind why I want to help others and the population I primarily want to work with. Music can do wonders for molding individuality and sparking development, and I hope that I can be that spark for others around me and myself towards becoming a music therapist!

A fun fact about me is my love for creating things! Along with doing music, I love to bake and crochet, so expect to see me in a lot of handmade sweaters. I am also a huge fan of cats and hope to expand having more in the future. But for now, I only have one named Kiki!
